DIY Stained Crates, A Makeover, & A Giveaway!

I'm excited to team up with Proctor & Gamble and Home Depot to bring you a simple home staining/painting project and a much needed linen closet makeover! They sent me a #ReadyDoneClean pack that helped me to "Get it ready, get it done, and get it clean".
So, I'm keeping it real today since you'll get to see how badly the makeover was needed!
But before I get to the good stuff I had to come up with some storage containers for the bottom of the closet. I'm loving the crate trend right now.  So I did some measuring and then went shopping. Turned out that if I got 2 then they would not be able to sit the same way. So I reasoned it out and decided that I'd be sorry if I didn't buy 2! Then I did a little research on Pinterest and found how I wanted to stain the crates.

I had just given the house a good cleaning for the personal shower I hosted so my craft room is clean. (Yay!) But an excellent tip is to use a Swiffer Sweeper to free your space up from any dust. I gave the crates a light sanding outside and then got to work using Minwax's Express Color Wiping Stain & Finish in Pecan. This was my first time using a stain and I loved it! I almost used it all, there's probably enough left for a small project. I then got out a stencil and some paint to add a pretty touch to my crates. I grabbed a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser and had to clean my stencil from the last time I used it.  Ahem....lesson learned to always clean a stencil after using. But the Magic Eraser worked like a charm!  Now I was ready to tackle freshening up the linen closet. Here's the before....

Ugh! See? Keeping. It. Real!
Ok so obviously there's wasted space at the bottom and I was in desperate need of more nail polish storage space!( Lil' Hunkie has gotten into my nail polish and painted on himself and the cabinet so 'higher ground' was a must!)  Also, the red cube is what I used at our previous home for medicine storage and so with adding the crates I wanted a more uniform look.  Here's the after...

Ahhh! Makes me smile! I even got a 'good job' from my husband!

Before adding the crates in I grabbed the Swiffer Sweeper and ran it along the ceiling, walls and top of the door to get any cobwebs or dust. Then I Swiffered the floor and grabbed another Magic Eraser and cleaned the base boards and even cleaned up some scuff marks that I was surprised to see!

And then the linen closet makeover was on and didn't take long at all! The two baskets and tray I had already and weren't really in use.  I also put into use a sheets organizing trick I saw on Pinterest....store folded sheets in one of the pillowcases!
