2015 Scary Free Halloween Mantel

Well Halloween is almost here!! This year we ordered Lil' Hunkie's costume in plenty of time....last year he wanted to be Mickey Mouse and we waited too long to buy in a store and he had to settle being a shark....the cutest one I've ever seen! So this time I wanted to make sure he got what he wanted and just ordered it online! He's going as Paw Patrol's Marshall which in turn has had him request a Paw Patrol birthday pawty! ;) Gonna be fun!

Here's this year's scary free mantel...simple black and gold glitter! Cost:$0!! Yep I had all these things here and there....I had a canvas that I just swiped on 2 different glitter paints on....the chevron tray was one I had found on clearance at Hobby Lobby a while back that I've never done anything with...framed a piece of glitter scrapbook paper.....and the mirrors I bought on sale at Home Depot that I intend to add to my gallery wall someday. Never could decide on a banner so since the mantel will change briefly to a Happy Birthday one and then right to Thanksgiving I decided not to worry with it!
I'm loving gold and glitter and black and white right now!

We have Trunk or Treat at church and Fall Party at school next week....can't wait for the fun!

Happy Saturday lovelies!

2013 Scary Free Halloween Mantel

Last year was my first time decorating for Halloween.  I don't do all the scary, gory, creepy, spooky stuff....some of it's cute but growing up we just celebrated fall.  So keeping with how my momma raised me, I wanted to once again do a scary free Halloween mantel.  I added a few new things but mainly used what I already had in a new way.

What's New:
the two copper buckets, $1 each in the Target Dollar Spot
the copper owl, $6 at Target
flowers in buckets, $6 at Hobby Lobby
grey lace trim, $2 at Hobby Lobby

I am loving it better than last year!!
Got all your Halloween decorating done yet?

Happy Thursday!

Paint Chip Halloween Garland

I know it may be hard to believe but my Paint Chip Halloween Garland was the first time I crafted with paint chips! Yeah, just a little behind in the trends! I'm positive it won't be the last time either!
Of course this was very easy and I did it one night after Lil' Hunkie was in bed. Didn't take long, what was time consuming was trying to decide on a shape!

{Supplies:}
Paint chips
Scrapbook paper
square punch
scissors/paper cutter
mini clothespins, twine

{How to:}
Using my paper cutter I cut the bottom off of each chip, just above the punch out hole. I punched out the holes, and now had dots which I saved and used.

I then made a template. I did this because it took me several tries to get the angle just right!
Then I cut all my chips to match my template.

Then using my square punch, I punched out squares in the two scrapbook papers. After rearranging a few times settled on the below pattern. Square, dot, clothespin.  I then started in the middle of my twine and pinned on the chips, hung on the fireplace and done! So easy!

 Using the clothespins allowed me to skip gluing! Ha!

What's your favorite way to use paint chips?

Happy Thursday!

Fall Crawl-Scary Free Halloween Mantel

My Fall Crawl day is here!
The ArtsyGirl Connection
I always enjoy the cool bloggy events Marilyn of The ArtsyGirl Connection organizes.  And I didn't want to pass this one up! So after joining I got to thinking about what today's post would be.  Lil' Hunkie has already been talking Christmas so when he does I always remind him of all the fun things we have to do before Christmas....Pumpkin day, his birthday, Turkey day then Christmas.  Well my husband caught me saying this and said I was forgetting one...Halloween. I was calling Halloween Pumpkin day! Because we take it as a day to celebrate fall not all the spooky, scary stuff.  So I thought why not make a scary free Halloween mantel? The result is perfect for my taste and how I want my family to celebrate October 31!

And guess how much money I spent?
About $5!!
2 pieces of scrapbook paper, a fabric remnant and a bag of candy was all I bought, the rest I had already!!
What I made:
Paint chip garland {tutorial coming soon!}
Scrapbook papered plaques
'October' embroidery hoop art {tutorial coming soon!}
'31' tray
'T is for Treat' sign

Tips for decorating for Halloween without the scary/spooky stuff:
{These might be obvious! But this was totally my thought process!}
*Use color. Pick a simple color scheme and stick to it.*
I did orange and black but green and black or purple and black would be great too!
I didn't want brown or yellow mixed in.
*Use pattern.*
  Again, I only have a few patterns going...damask and chevron.
*Think outside the box.*
Using '31', 'October' art and  'T is for Treat' is a little different from the norm of witches, skulls, etc.
But they still represent the holiday.

Hope those tips help!
I must say for my first Halloween mantel I'm pretty happy!

Make sure and visit the other gals in the Fall Crawl and join the fun and link up your fall projects to the Fall Crawl Link Party below!!

Happy Fall! Happy Friday!

Halloween Treats

Happy Halloween!
How has everyone's festivities been?  We are taking Lil' Hunkie to a local church's Trunk or Treat this evening and not handing out candy.  Boo! I like it but we took the less expensive route this year and are just focusing on Lil' Hunkie.  We do have some neighbors with little ones who usually come over so I made them some treats and also chose to Boo someone for the first time!  Do you know what that is?  I had never heard of it till now but basically you leave treats on a neighbor's doorstep anonymously with a "We've been Booed" sign and instructions for them to in turn boo someone else.   There's all kinds of free printables out there!  I chose The Tomkat Studio's version.
It was fun!

And here's my treats!
Ghost Eyes~Rolos
Ghosts~White Chocolate covered Nutter Butters
Candy Corn M&M Cookies

I just used scrapbook paper to fold over the top of a sandwich bag and wallah! Easy cute packaging!
Of course the Nutter Butter ghosts are all over the place and I simply googled 'monster eye treats' and found the Rolo idea at It Is What It Is.  So stinkin' easy and very cute I must say!
 For our neighbors I used another free printable by Mommy by Day...Crafter by Night and stapled all three bags together with the tag on the front.

 Finally I made Peeps Smores for my niece and nephews!  This idea came from Christi of Love From The Oven.  If you're not familiar with her...she's a sweet genius and I love all her baking creativity!

Fun, simple, cute treats!!

Have a Happy Day and be safe!
