Soiree Day-A Little Birdie Birthday

Bird party themes are popular right now and I found a fabulous one!!  This was for a girl's 2nd birthday but could be adapted for a baby shower up to age 5 I would think.  It's cute, trendy and best of all simple.

Vintage Gwen Chapel-Not That Into You

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of being youth minister to our teens.  Our youth pastors use some awesome curriculum and I kicked off a series themed Not That Into You.  Basically sometimes in our walk with God there's times that we are so into God.  Sometimes not at all.  And sometimes we're in the middle.  By the end of establishing the differences of the three there was just one question to ask.
Which one are you because it's time to own where you're at.  Man did that ever hit me square in the face!  So I decided to be bold.  I put tape faces on the floor...an into God face and a not that into God face and left the middle blank.  I stepped in the middle and told the teens I wanted to be honest and own where I'm at with God.  Then I asked them to be bold and asked them to come to the front and stand where they were at.  Honestly I was expecting a little bit of a spread, some in each section.  To my surprise they all joined me in the middle.  I had to fight the tears so I could pray!
Why was I surprised? Because they truly listened and got the lesson.  Because we all could work on our relationship with God and being in the middle told me that they had a relationship established but it just needs work.  Because God moved.
This coming Wednesday is the final lesson.  I'm excited to see how it ends!

How about you? Where are you at with God?
I encourage you to not be discouraged if it's not perfect.  I won't ever be perfect.  But rather own where your at and move forward. Big, tiny, petite, large...any shape...just move forward.
Psalm 24:5 NLT
"They will receive the Lord's blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior."

Be blessed!

Easy Sewing Machine Cover

Well today is the last of my craft room projects. My sewing machine isn't really all that old.  It came with a flimsy plastic cover that just didn't last long, especially with Lil' Hunkie around.  So I knew I wanted to make a new cover for it since it has to be stored on the very bottom shelf of the bookcase, plus there's all that light!   I had a stretched out in the neck knit shirt that was in my pile of things to do something with that I thought would make the perfect cover! Bonus: this cost nothing!

I shared this over at The Crafty Scientist a couple of weeks ago in case you missed it!

Here's what I did!

Supplies:
Shirt
Sewing machine and general sewing supplies
Scrap fabric
Pins
Hot glue gun

Such a cute shirt!! Glad I thought of a way to keep it around!

Good ole' Singer!

Started off by cutting off the top 1/4 of the shirt.  I had eyeballed measured and the top of the lace on the bottom half was just right for length wise so when I cut I allowed for a seam.

Now I have a tube basically.  I slid the shirt down over the machine and pinned at the ends of the handle to leave a slit.

I then marked underneath....

Next I turned the shirt inside out and using the seam as a guide ran a stitch from both sides inward towards the marks....

Then I measured the sides, about 3 inches from the edge, and ran a stitch on both sides....

Finally I made a couple of rolled flower pins, pinned them on and done!!

I love it and love that it was free!

Happy Thursday!

Soiree Day-Vintage Carnival 1st Birthday

Happy Tuesday!
I hosted our church's ladies meeting Friday night and I tell ya, I wore myself out getting the house ready! I really think it's the excessive heat we are having! I started the day out by doing the touch up paint on the outside of the house and felt like I was on one our Mission Trip's to Mexico! Sheesh!  So I took me a little break!  All is well now!
I found the loveliest Vintage Carnival 1st Birthday while browsing Someday Craft's link party last week and am excited to share it today!

True loveliness! This soiree is a great example of  DIY planning and using what you have. Or what your mother has! I  really love how it turned out!  Be sure and visit Lauren's blog for more pictures and party resources!

Pick Your Plum Block

Ok I really don't know what to call today's craft room project!  I bought this a while back when it was one of Pick Your Plum's deal along with 5 additional pieces of metal.  I wanted the extra sheets to use on the cork board that's in Lil' Hunkie's bedroom and thought the block stand would be cute in my craft room.  I really like how  it turned out and it was oh so easy!

Supplies
Pick Your Plum block with metal sheet
Paint and brushes
Sanding block
Scrapbook paper
Mod Podge
Magnets

I mixed my navy blue craft paint with a metallic silver craft paint to tone down the navy and it gave it a little bit of shimmer! After painting it I lightly sanded, especially on the edges.

Then I cut out a piece of scrapbook paper and mod podged it on. {I only applied paper to the front.}
And done! So simple!

Do you have one of these?
If I ever find money in the laundry this is where it'll go...using a magnet for cash and that little ledge for coins! Though Hunkie is good about emptying his pockets!

Happy Thursday!

{Sweet Sponsor} Scentsy Consultant Kari Doherty

Surely everyone knows by now what Scentsy is!

"Scentsy began with a simple idea — a safe, wickless alternative to scented candles — and quickly grew into one of the most successful direct selling companies in the world. This wickless concept is simply decorative ceramic warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame."

I love it!  If you're like me, then you enjoy a nice smellin' house, especially if you have a little one still in diapers! Before Lil' Hunkie came along, I burned candles like nobody's business so I was glad when I was introduced to Scentsy by my good friend, Kari a couple of years ago.  I've been pleased ever since!  And to me their scents are more concentrated therefore last longer than others. And yes I've tried others.  And of course the best part for me is no more open flame.  Currently, I have Jane in the kitchen which covers the kitchen, dining room, and living room.  And then there are plug ins in each bathroom.  And my favorite scent? French Kiss! And I think Rio Beach is the perfect bathroom scent!

I'm so very excited to have Kari join my sponsor group!
And she'd love to be your consultant!  Be sure and visit her site at https://kariswarmers.scentsy.us/Scentsy/Home and check out Scentsy's other product lines; Layers and Velata.

And be sure to watch for my 2nd Annual August Bash coming up!  There just might be some Scentsy up for grabs!

Happy Monday!

Vintage Gwen Chapel-1st #SheReadsTruth Plan Recap

About 21 days ago I joined the #SheReadsTruth community and have completed the 1st reading plan.
I'm not sure if I'll recap all the plans but I wanted to the 1st one because I enjoyed it so much!
One of things I enjoy about this, is how people share how they're going through the plan. Several ladies journal and then share photos on Instagram and my favorite so far has been Her Southern Charm.
She is so artistic with her journaling!  It inspired me to try and find a journaling app and I found one I really liked...Penzu (and just looking briefly at it online it looks cool!) but my silly old phone doesn't have enough storage for it! So I found Textgram and used it about 9 days out of the 21.  If something really stuck out or ministered to me then I would create the Textgram then share it on Instagram.  I'm still not sure if I like it.  Maybe I need to use good ole' pen and paper.  All this technology is amazing and it really helps you feel like a community but at the same time there is a line that can be crossed where it seems like I'm more attached to the technology then to God.  And I need God more than I need technology.  The reading plan was awesome and reminded me of some truths. *See Photos Above*
The current plan started on Thursday so there's still time to join.  It's on prayer...something I don't do enough of.  I'm liking where being part of the #SheReadsTruth community is taking me even if I'm still trying to figure out how to share!
{How you share is up to you! A lot, a little, how it best fits you.)

Canvas Redo

Ready for another craft room project?  Today I'm showing you a canvas I redid.  I had this pair of canvases for quite some time, never really could make them fit into my decor anywhere so thought I could use them somehow in the craft room.  I think I paid $5 for the pair at a Dollar General so again this is basically a $0 project since I had everything already. Somehow I forgot to take a before pic so here's the one that's still undone....
....the one I painted had a purse on it. Cute so not sure why I had such a hard time making them fit somewhere!

Supplies:
Canvas
Paint, paint brush(es)
Homemade stencil
Xacto knife
Bee charm
Hot glue gun

I gave the canvas a couple of coats of Krylon's Raspberry spray paint (same color as my chair) and could see the purse still a little.  (Note: primer is usually a good thing!) So I took a metallic pink craft paint I had and went over it and loved the result.  I made the words in Word and got them to the size I wanted, printed and got to work with the xacto knife, being careful of the 'bits' from the 'b', 'e', and 'a'.....

Next  taped on my stencil.  I then traced lightly with a pencil....

And then very carefully painted in the letters using a pretty small paint brush and a metallic taupe craft paint. Because I was using a lighter color I kind built up the paint....hope that makes sense!
Glued the bee charm on and done!

Gotta say, it makes me happy!  Not sure yet what I'll do with the other one...time will tell!

Happy Thursday!!
