Super Hero For A Day!

I get to be a Super Hero tonight!!  And it's all thanks to my sweet niece who turned 16 on Wednesday.  She chose a Super Hero Costume Party! So fun!  Hunkie has to work so it'll be a 'date' for me and Lil' Hunkie.  At first I thought it would be cute to be Super Aunt but what would I do for Lil' Hunkie? Time to be a little creative.  Mask plus homemade super hero shirt is what I went with!

I simply printed off the word 'super' and a wheel graphic, put those inside the shirt and used a red sharpie to trace and fill in.  Our last name is Wheeler...get it? The Super Wheels!  I try to be clever sometimes!
And to help in party prep I made some super hero bottle cap necklaces and key chains as a favor...

Very easy!
So today is a fun day with a little bit of joyful tears.  My niece is the oldest of the grand kids for my parents and is also the only girl so you can imagine just how special this occasion is! I wrote a nice sentiment on her Facebook wall and made it through without a tear but then I started reading what everyone else wrote and bawled like a baby for a minute!  She's a one of a kind young lady and I'm excited to share in her milestone.  More than likely I'll share more on Soiree Day.

Until then, this is Super Wheel Jennifer saying have a great Friday!
{Heeheehee!}

My First China Cabinet

Ok I know I've been saying and been meaning to give a tour of our new home but I keep getting side tracked!!  I hope you'll be patient with me! Even though things are coming together, there's still things to be done!  I won't bore you with what those are but I promise it will come!
One thing that I got accomplished over this past weekend was getting and redoing my first ever china cabinet!! I had been watching Craigslist like a hawk for a good deal.  Well I found a beautiful French Provincial style cabinet for $100 and probably would have been the same color as the top of my dining table but when I called about it of course it was just sold.  So then I got to thinking a white one to match the legs and chairs of my dining set would actually be pretty.  Yup, that's what I wanted. Gulp, that meant painting. Priming, sanding, etc,etc too. Which I've never really done before. When I found one in the town we just moved from for $125 I excitedly emailed fellow Okie {and used to be fellow Skiatookie} blogger Clydia of Three Mango Seeds.  She is a whiz when it comes to furniture redos and actually sells them! So with her advice and a broken spindle from one of my chairs{yes it's been broken for 4 years, go ahead and chuckle} for color reference off to Home Depot me and Lil' Hunkie went!
I chose Glidden Satin in Cappuccino White then got Martha Stewart's Metallic Glaze in Medallion.  I wanted to distress it a little bit so no sanding or priming required!
Ready?

Before

I adore the top!! I didn't get the chance to take a picture but the back had a date on it...March of 1972!

And now the after....

Didn't take long to fill it up!!

My favorite part... ☺

What i did:
Painted 2 coats of paint, then with a fine grit sanding block distressed it, then brushed on the glaze and wiped off with a rag, and finally did a coat of satin polyurethane.  I thought it was going to rain on Tuesday so I didn't think I had time to do another coat of polyurethane like the can said to do.  I started on Saturday at about 3pm, worked on it Sunday and then finished up Monday morning.  We have no garage right now so I had to get this done!  I was feeling a little overwhelmed on Saturday evening.  But after one coat of paint I was loving how it was going to turn out.  I chose to do a temporary application to the back of the inside so it can be changed out easily.  I used wrapping paper! Got this tip from Jen at Tatertots & Jello! I simply measured each section and used double sided tape. I wanted to change out the handles but I don't think they are a standard size so I'm probably going to paint them.  I'm just so excited to have one and get to display my dishes!

Cost breakdown:
China Cabinet: $125
Supplies from Home Depot-paint,glaze, polyurethane, brushes, sanding block, tape: $66.16
Wrapping Paper from Hobby Lobby org. $5.99 used 40% off coupon:$3.89
Total:$195.05
Hey pretty good! Especially since I have leftover supplies!
I won't say I've caught the furniture redo bug but I'm glad to know I have it in me!

Happy Thursday!!

Soiree Day-Easter Entertaining

Not gonna lie, Easter is sneaking up on me! There's been so much to do and still is, that I don't have any decorating done yet! So I thought I'd do an inspirational post today to help myself out! Ha!
Please tell me I"m not the only one!
I'm thinking our family gathering just might be at my house this year so I need to get on the ball!

{Setting The Table}

Easter Story Time Dinnerware from Williams Sonoma
Love the vintage feel of these!  And it's just salad plates so you could easily add these to either your basic everyday or something a little fancier.  Mixing patterns saves on cost!

Ivory Lace Napkins from Pier 1
Basic and fancy at the same time! Perfect!

Empty Tomb
I think this would be a perfect centerpiece! Thinking about doing this!

Introducing...Serendipity Gift Company

Remember me saying I had a few exciting things to share?  One was my giveaway going on right now and the other is that I started a {small} business with my mom and sister!!  Yes this took place during the crazy month of February! And here's how this came about...

For years my mom's signature gift has been a gift basket, especially Honeymoon and Baby baskets.  She even had a few people ask if she sold them.  Well it's been a little bit of a rough ride health wise for her the past 2 years and in February she retired early.  Yippee!! So why not start her dream business to make up a little for the loss of income?  If it hadn't been for my sister's husband nagging  encouragement and prodding, the dream would still be a dream.  Now then, we have started small but at least we have started!!  After much debate on a name, we birthed Serendipity Gift Company, " Providing delightful gifts and handmade items to celebrate all of life's special moments."  Basically a gift basket company! We did Valentine candy grams, a few baby baskets, a custom birthday basket and did our first craft show so far.  We have geared up for Easter and have some premade baskets such as movie baskets.  And yes we have a website and offer shipping!
Very exciting and we are taking it slow and I am proud of my sister and brother in law for doing almost all of the work right now.  Please check out the website and like us on Facebook and remember us the next time you need a gift!

Here's a basket from my mom when I had Lil' Hunkie...

Happy Thursday!!

PS: I really wanted to post pics of the house today but we've had no sun! And while you'll be seeing plenty of stuff still boxed up, there's some minor things I wanted done before showing you.  It's at the top of the list for next week!

Soiree Day-Potty Party

I'm excited for Soiree Day today!  Yes you read right, it's a Potty Party.  Now before I get to all the fabulous pictures and details, potty parties are not new to me.  Years ago, one of my nephews had the hardest time with potty training.  So when he finally got it we were so proud of him that my mom thought it the perfect time to celebrate.  And thus, the tradition of Granny's potty party.  Now we've not had any that are as fancy as today's feature, which is a-ok, but I loved all the details.  And when I showed the party to my mom and sister they loved it too!
Mindy at Creative Juice created this party for her daughter and is sharing the details....

 Potty Party Details

In my quest to potty train my daughter I came across a philosophy to “potty train in a day”. Part of the advice was to “throw them a potty party”…well when I see party I sort of tend to go over the top.  So that’s what I did. I invited all of her friends over who were “in training” & their personal trainers- the moms – for a Potty party! I looked everywhere for potty charts & things to make it a CUTE special occasion for them. But alas, I found none. So I designed printables to go with this party.

Easy Peanut Butter Pie

Hunkie's birthday was this past Monday.  Not gonna lie...he doesn't care for birthdays.  Which is like the equivalent of rain on a parade for me.  He wouldn't let me make a cake or a special dinner.  I did manage to get him a gift...a new shirt from Lil' Hunkie and make a pie!  I just so happened to need to make a dessert for one of our Pastors this week and so I relied on my sister's trusty Peanut Butter Pie to kill two birds with one stone.  This recipe is so easy and makes 2 pies!

Peanut Butter Pie
courtesy of my sister, Erica

8oz cream cheese
1 cup peanut butter-I used smooth but use whatever you like best!
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
12oz Cool Whip-about 3/4 of a 16oz tub
2 graham cracker pie crusts
1 Hershey chocolate bar, chilled

Melt together in microwave-safe bowl, cream cheese and peanut butter for 1-2 minutes, just enough to melt and stir together with spoon.  And powdered sugar and Cool Whip, mix well.  Pour into graham cracker crusts and chill in freezer for 1 hour.  Before serving, grate chocolate bar on top of pies.
Enjoy!!

This is so yummy and yep it's all gone!

Here I Am Finally!!

Well I don't think I want to do that again!
So as not to bore you with details, in short, the sale of our house took longer than expected, it was very frustrating! And then to add to the situation, I had to move us without my husband! We closed on both houses on Friday, February 24th and the buyer was hoping to move in over the weekend. So thank goodness for my family and church family!! I rented a Uhaul truck, started at 9am and pulled out of Skiatook at 6pm! I was somewhat emotional not having Hunkie with me when leaving our first home but I managed to keep it together.
So here we are two weeks in and still working on organizing everything! I hope to show you some photos next week, for right now here's the front. I took this probably a month or so ago on my phone and already it looks a little different thanks to my hard working Hunkie!

And yes Lil' Hunkie has been all over that sand pile!! The couple we bought the house from had put brick around the bottom of the house and the sand got left.  I've even played in it a few times too.☺

I'll be trying to get back to the blogging norm for myself.  There's no way to catch up, just gonna have to jump back in.  I do have a few exciting things to share!  I have missed the blogging community and I might have some crafting withdrawals!!  I didn't realize until going through all this that crafting for me is a stress reliever.  Well and blogging too. Who knew?
Thanks for all of your support and well wishes, it truly encouraged me.
And if you are a new follower, thank you too, I'm grateful to have you!
~So glad to be back!~
