Vintage Gwen Photo A Day Challenge

Exciting announcement today!
I've decided to create my own Photo A Day Challenge!
I love taking pictures and have enjoyed sharing my challenge photos on Instagram.  I've thought about making my own before and just decided with the new month I'd pull the trigger! This will be an Instagram only thing right now so I really hope you'll join me in the fun!  And creating the list was not as easy as I thought so bare with me as I find my groove!

HOW TO PLAY:
Simply take a photo inspired by the daily prompt, interpret the prompt how you like. Then share on Instagram with #VGphotoaday. Please use new photos that you take. Please do not use anyone else's photo...this is about you and your pictures. Or you can create a image for the prompt, but it must be something you create. Below is an example....

For this image I found the background in the Photofy app and saved. Then I brought the image into the Rhonna Farrer Designs app and added the white square and faded it a bit and saved.  Then I brought that image into the Phonto app and added the words.  Finally uploaded the image to Instagram.

I love making these inspiring images or art or word art to share!
So by all means use this method for any of the prompts!

I tried to be mindful of special days in the month like World Autism Awareness Day and Earth Day so be sure and add appropriate hashtags for those. I also encourage you to create your own hashtag for your photo a day pics. It gives you easy access to your photos! (I use vintagegwenPAD.)  Save the list image to your phone to refer to it easily.

This is all about fun and creativity and documenting life so I do hope you'll join me!

Here's to new adventures!!

He Is Risen Easter Wreath

Once St. Patrick's Day was over I knew I'd need to get the Easter decor out quick or else I'd miss it and since Easter is one of my favorite holidays I couldn't have that! So this last week I got it all out and had everything just right except one thing.  A wreath for the front door. Over the years I've just used a pink berry wreath that I think came from Home Interiors but it has seen better days.
So perfect time to make an Easter specific wreath!

I looked for supplies at the Dollar Tree to no avail....nothing stood out to me. So I looked at Dollar General and found a metal wreath form and the flowers.  I had the lacy burlap leftover from a wedding I helped with in February and then made the sign in PicMonkey.  Didn't take long at all to whip it up!

Supplies.....
....plus my trusty hot glue gun and some lace for a hanger. I mod podged the He Is Risen print out to some glitter scrapbook paper.

I simply wrapped the burlap around the form and hot glued the end down, see the end to the right bottom side?

Then I hot glued on the sign first, the flowers second over the end, and then lastly the lace loop.

Isn't it so sweet?  Lil' Hunkie picked out that big purple flower so made it all the more sweet!

Hope you are enjoying the Easter season!
Have a happy day!

Vintage Gwen Chapel-Drop Your Load!

I love when God gives me a 'nugget' from an everyday, ordinary moment.
This moment might not qualify as ordinary though!

This moment happened a couple of weeks ago when I was picking Lil' Hunkie up from school.  There's a grandpa who brings and picks up his granddaughter. I'm assuming he is grandpa since he sure looks like it. I've observed them before and let me just say....she is quite ornery!
Grandpa was sitting on a bench closest to the door. Once granddaughter made it out the door, he stood up and took a couple steps toward her and when they met, she immediately dropped her back pack at his feet and proceeded to walk away. He picked it up and called after her, almost having to chase after her, which I've seen him do before.

Now I won't lie, my first thought was she might need a spankin'!
But then God dropped the 'nugget'.

It didn't even take her a second that she was in her caretaker's presence that she dropped her load and walked away, knowing that grandpa would take care of that load! How long do we wait when we are in the Presence of God to drop and walk away from all our burdens? How often do we simply walk away from our load? She did not look back!! She cared not of that back pack!!

The Bible says....
"Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." Psalm 55:22 NASB

Man, I want to be so confident in my Caretaker that I let Him take care of my load without looking back! How about you? And I love that by casting our load we are really exchanging it for sustainment and unshakenness! Those might be new words!

Well, here's to new words!
Be blessed lovelies!

Chic Couture-March Beauty Boxes

Had another great beauty box month! And even extra goodies by way of a Julep Mystery Box!
I decided to splurge on their Lucky Mystery Box to get two new colors, Dawnelle( a pretty rose taupe glitter) & Darby(dark green with some microglitter).

I went with the Modern Beauty box again and added on the clover decals.  I chose the shade Primp in their new lipstick , it's a nice creamy neutral. The Fluid Eye Glider I really like, I was able to do a kitten eye on the first use!!

In the Lucky Mystery Box I got the two new shades, more clover decals, Go Big mascara, Clean Slate pen, and 3 other polishes none are dupes I think so I'm very pleased. I haven't ordered a mystery box in a while so this was fun! And then I had seen that there was a code to get a wedding duo free when you made a purchase so I got  Sienna and Fifi for free! Sienna is a dupe but I will use it as a gift!

First of all the bag is so, so pretty! The Nyx Butter Lipstick and Mary Kay shadow stick are in some bright, fun colors which I have learned to embrace! The CoolWay hair oil is ok, I've been using a Matrix oil that I still prefer.  I had the Laneige foundation in a Target box and liked it but not enough to buy and haven't tried the eye gels yet but was told I'd really like them.. Overall, a great bag!!

How was your beauty box month?

Easter Project Group-Cross Canvas

I'm sooo excited to take part in an Easter Project Group today!!  One of my all time fav bloggers, Bethany of Pitter and Glink, invited me to her 'party' and it sure sounded like fun to me!
In a nutshell, a group of bloggers have completed some type of crafty, Eastery, goodness and we are all sharing our projects today.  You'll find photos and links at the bottom of this post so you can just click away!

When thinking about what I would make for today's post I knew I wanted it to be a canvas.  I actually had a different idea in mind but I was doing laundry and saw a box of vintage clip on earrings among my craft mess.....I mean craft treasures!.... and thought to myself  "I need to do something with those to get them gone!" And immediately thought they might make a pretty cross.
So I gathered up the supplies and printed off the words (from a worship song I first heard long ago at Acquire the Fire!) from PicMonkey and got started.

Supplies:
11x14 canvas
paints
foam brushes
vintage clip on earrings
hot glue gun
fine point sharpie and pencil
word printout

The first thing I did was remove the clips from the back of the earrings so they would glue down flat. I did have to use pliers on a few! See my pile of clips? ☺

Next I painted the canvas using a metallic blue, purple, pink, and green.  I wanted the blue to be 'sky' and the green to be 'grass' in a watercolory way.  Didn't take much paint to do this! Then I laid out the earrings and glued them down.

Finally, I cut my words down and used a pencil and colored the backside of the words, then I was able to position the words and then trace over them with the pencil to transfer them to the canvas. I went over the words with a fine tip sharpie, taking my time. Such a neat trick!!

All done!!

I loved how it turned out!! And so did my 'sounding board' sister!
Pretty sure it will find it's way to this year's Easter mantle!

Make sure and check out my follow groupies below!

2015 St. Patrick's Day Mantle

Yay for  my 2nd St. Patrick's Day Mantle! It's been up for about a week and will be coming down next week since Easter is fast approaching! I didn't want to spend a whole of money to put this mantle together and as a matter of fact I spent none at all! My Secret Sister from church got me the cross last year so I didn't use it until now. And then I simply put a green, sparkly chevron piece of card stock
in the white frame and double stuck a shamrock to the corner and then pulled the open frame from my craft stash and used some twine to hang shamrocks with clothespins.  Made the tissue garland and that was it!

Nice and easy and simple and cute and...and... I could go on!!

But I won't! ☺

Have a Happy Day lovelies!

Soiree Day-Vintage Nurse Hat RN Party

You know completing nurse school is quite the accomplishment! And one to be, for sure, without a doubt, celebrated. Come snow or high water! Yep that's right, we had my sister's nurse party in the snow! Unfortunately, we couldn't reschedule it and had to carry on and I'm so pleased with how everything turned out!  I went with a vintagey, vintage nurse hat theme.  The first thing I did was create a logo (in PicMonkey of course!) and went from there!

It is actually a circle, below is the Facebook event photo I made and also made an invitation similar to this. I found the nurse hat on Google and then did the rest in PicMonkey.  I also used the logo to customize a tumbler from Starbucks so my sister would have it for her new job!

I used a local baker for the cake, cookies, and cupcakes and absolutely love how all three turned out! I made the thermometer pretzels and then found some licorice candy in red and blue that looked like 'happy pills'. We also had finger foods for our come and go guests.
For the logo centerpiece, I simply uploaded the logo to Walmart and made a poster! I did have to trim it as it wasn't centered but that was ok since I was having to mount it to a red foam board from Hobby Lobby. Great, easy, inexpensive way to enhance a sweet table!

For table decor, I used the infamous Ikea Tolsby frame and framed the logo, added my sister's favorite flowers and some more happy pills and done!

I recreated this congrats eye chart I saw on Pinterest in PicMonkey and used it near our snacks.

Finally, instead of gifts we asked guests to use the Johnson & Johnson Donate A Photo app and upload a photo and choose the Help A Student Start A Healthcare Career cause in honor of my sister's accomplishment. Johnson and Johnson then donated a $1 to the cause. I created a 'photo op' display using some of my sister's school books, our mom's nurse hat, and some Polaroids of when my sister (and cousin) candy-striped.
I won't lie...I was pretty excited coming up with this idea! And you can use the app once a day and choose from several causes.  So if you can remember to do it daily, you can give $365 to causes in a year without spending a dime! (I do believe you can set a reminder in the app! How about that?)

We're so proud of Erica! She's already started a new job and is loving it!
