Chic Couture-Root Pump Review

I wanted to share a quick review of one of the products I got in my last Ipsy bag.  The Big Sexy Hair Root Pump, it's a volumizing spray mousse.
Now I don't use mousse at all. What I do use is the Big Sexy Hair Powder Play, it's a volumizing and texturizing powder.I use it at my crown and 'pouf' my hair.  So I tried the Root Pump in the place of the powder.  First of all, I've been 'poufing' my hair for a while now so I feel like it's pretty 'trained'.  Products like the powder and mousse help the pouf stay in place. I love the powder!
So I applied the Root Pump to my crown with wet hair and blow dried(per the directions of applying to wet hair)  and then poufed away.  And got the results in the pictures above.  The bottom is a 'selfie' angle and that's why my part is flipped. I was impressed the first day, no lie.  I tried it a second time and was a little disappointed. But I don't think my hair was as dry as it was the first try and there was some pretty good Oklahoma winds on the second day! I tried a 3rd time and it did better.  For how I used it I felt like it performed well. But I still prefer the powder and here's why...with the powder even if my hair is still a tiny bit damp I can still get a good pouf.  I don't think that of the mousse.  The mousse will be a good back up plan though!

Have you tried the Root Pump? How'd you like it?

Happy Saturday lovelies!!

Throwback Thursday

Time for another Throwback Thursday share!
For more about what that it is check out here.

Throwback Thursday-Craftiness

I like to make baby gifts like burp cloths, onesies, blankies.  I loved the idea of a diaper cradle as opposed to a cake and this post has proved to be one of my most popular.  This was when I crafted at night and have since learned that blog pictures look better in the daylight! Ha! But when you're a mom you gotta do what ya gotta do!

Throwback Thursday-Recipe

Thanks to my sister's recipe for Easy Peanut Butter Pie this post is my 2nd most viewed recipe!
I love that it makes 2, which means you can share or just keep in the freezer for later!

Aw what great posts these were! Thanks for liking them!

Happy Thursday!

Vintage Gwen Chapel-It's Our Resurrection Too!

"For if we have been united with Him in a death like this, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His." Romans 6:5 ESV

As I was reading Romans 6: 5-11 today the thought came in my mind.....
tomorrow is my resurrection day too!
Not that I have done anything at all to free myself from sin but because I am in Christ I get to rejoice in the resurrection also.  I get to experience the revitalization that freedom from sin brings.
And guess what I get to do today, the silent, sober day?
I get to be reminded to wait on God's plan. Today is a reminder that it may look like all hope is lost, but God is working in the unseen and that work is mighty. He knows what He is doing.  There's always a "Sunday is coming" in our situations.
Praying you have the most blessed Resurrection day ever!

Chic Couture-April Beauty Boxes

Beauty box time!
This month I decided to skip Julep.  There wasn't any polishes that I had to have and I would have gotten the Modern Beauty box with a blush and bronzer but I couldn't pick the colors I wanted so there's always next month!

Birchbox
This was ok, really probably good but I might be feeling 'blah' about Birchbox.  Or maybe I just need to cut back on my monthly beauty spending!! I got yet another sunscreen and I have updated my profile. The Color Club polish is pretty but it was goopey. Anastasia brow gel works ok and the skin perfecting gel is ok too. The Kind bar was tasty!

Julep

Ipsy I liked more! They had  me at Urban Decay!! Love the pencil, Mary Kay lip gloss, and the eyeshadow!
Haven't tried the microdermabrasion stuff yet and someone requested on Instagram I report back about the Root Pump.  I used it yesterday and liked it but want to use it a couple more times before saying I love it. You use it on damp hair and I only wash my hair 3 times a week. I'll post on Instagram next week!
I love the bag although it's one of those stinky ones!!

2014 Easter Mantle

Excited to finally share my Easter mantle today!! It might be my favorite mantle yet!

After putting out all the Easter decor I only had my cross tray on the mantle.  Well and that metal scroll that pretty much stays put! So I decided to do a cross/floral theme and bust out the craftiness!  As you know, I crafted with wood shims for the first time and loved how easy they are to work with! The final touch is a easy diy floral garland that I saw Courtney of Pizzazzerie share from her baby shower. All you do is hot glue flowers to a rope! Got all my supplies at the Dollar Tree so it was about $16! I love it so much I might have to make one for fall!!
Go here to see the tutorial!

Loving that this is almost an all crafted mantle!!
Happy Easter Lovelies!

Vintage Gwen Chapel-It's Simple

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Amplified

"1 AS FOR myself, brethren, when I came to you, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony and evidence or mystery and secret of God [concerning what He has done through Christ for the salvation of men] in lofty words of eloquence or human philosophy and wisdom;
2 For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified.
3 And I was in (passed into a state of) weakness and fear (dread) and great trembling [after I had come] among you.
4 And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],
5 So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God."

The bottom line of these verses..... Salvation doesn't need to be a mystery or some deep thought provoked idea or complicated even.  It's simple, Christ was crucified and we need to know Him as such.  And as Christians we don't need to have enticing and persuasive language to be a witness. What we need is the Holy Spirit operating in us, for the Holy Spirit will be the one to persuade. And when we are persuaded by the Holy Spirit our faith is strong and rests where it needs to...in the power of God.
I made the above graphic on Instagram yesterday and said it was my prayer for the day.  It's my prayer today and really always and I love that I found a prayer out of these verses. For some reason connecting faith with the power of God....resting my faith in the power of God....well it's just burning in my chest.  It's yes and amen. It's a simple prayer that really covers all that we might ever need.  And it's been in the Word all this time!
Thanks God!

Have a blessed weekend lovelies!

Cross & He Is Risen Wood Shim Art

Back today with more easy wood shim projects!
The amount of Easter/spring decor that I have compared to my Christmas, well.....it's just sad!! So yes I utilized the shims I bought!

Cross
Since there's two different sizes of shims, I thought they were perfect to make a cross. I went with a cross/floral theme for my mantel so thus the reason for making a fabric covered cross.  All I did was take Mod Podge and some scrap fabric and covered the two shims, once dried I then hot glued them together. The cross is just leaning against the He Is Risen Art!

He Is Risen Art

Just like my Flower art I took 2 shims and then hot glued on more shims the length of the anchors. Next I used some leftover stain and used a sponge brush to brush it on. Once dried I painted on the  "He Is Risen."  I actually made two of these!! One for me and one for my sister! So that's 4 projects out of the 2 packages of shims.  And I still have a handful left!
The first one I used chalk and did all caps and then used a metallic taupe to paint over the chalk.  The second one I free handed and decided to make the 'Risen' in cursive.  I then let my sister choose which one she liked best and she chose the all caps!

Really loved working with the shims!! Can ya tell?

Happy Thursday lovelies!

Show & Share #139

Welcome to party day!
No features this week as I'm working on my mini notebook.  We have an older desktop that has Windows XP on it(which is no longer supported by Microsoft) and well, about the only choice we have is to get a whole new computer! So hopefully by next week we'll have that taken care of!

Vintage Gwen Chapel-The Lord's Charge

"The Lord's Charge to Joshua."
That's the title to Joshua chapter 1 in the New Living Translation.
But I'm pretty sure that what God tells Joshua is a charge to us all.

Sometimes to get a deeper meaning of scripture the proceeding verses need to be read. Moses is dead and a very important job is left to Joshua...to lead the Israelites into the Promise Land. And so God just lays it all out.... how this important job is to go...how it will be accomplished....only with trust in Him.
And when God says "Study this Book of Instruction continually, meditate on it day and night..." I can't help but to think He's really saying "have relationship with Me!" "Study and know Me!"
"Meditate on Me!"  See when God says 'study the Word' I take it to mean 'study Me'.
{John 1:1 'In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God, and the Word was God.'}

So right there, plain as day, in black and white, is the key to accomplishing life.
Read the bible.
Continually. Ouch! Day and night. Ouch, ouch!
But it comes with reward!! Prosperity and success!
And the one thing we find easy to tell others but have a hard time believing for ourselves...
God is with us. Wherever we go.
Isn't that easy to tell others but a task to convince our selves sometimes?
But God promised. And He doesn't break promises.

Making the Lord's charge to Joshua my own today.

Happy Weekend!

Spring Flower Wood Shim Art

I've been working on my Easter decor this past week and have everything done but the mantle.  Can you believe I still had a box of Easter stuff at my mom's house? Yep! So I had her bring it to me and it was just like opening up some thing new since I couldn't remember what was in it! Come to find out there wasn't as many decor items as I was hoping for so once I went through everything I only had one thing on my mantle.   I had seen wood shim projects around and wanted to give it a try. Well I must say....easy, easy, easy! I made 3 things! (I've already shared one on Instagram for the Photo A Day challenge I do!) Today I'm sharing some Spring Flowers!

The idea for this Flower Art came to me after I made my He Is Risen Art(on Instagram)....I loved it so much I wanted to make a smaller one but have it be a little different. So out of the longer wood shims I found 2 that were not as long as the majority and used them as the anchors.  Then I hot glued 8 smaller shims to the longer ones, rotating the thick and thin edges.  Next I painted it a metallic off white and decided it either needed 2 coats or I needed to use a different color! So I took my metallic taupe and painted every other shim. It doesn't really stand out in the picture but it turned out really pretty! Then I turned it on it's side and took a metallic pink, blue and green....all the paint I had already....and free handed the flowers.
I just wanted something simple!

Can't lie...this makes me smile!
And by the way those 2 packs of shims cost me 6 bucks and some change at Home Depot.
Budget friendly and easy...they best kind of crafting!!

Have a happy Thursday!
